Daniel Zamir, born in the 80’s in Petah Tikva, Israel, is a groundbreaking Israeli jazz musician. After completing his studies at the Thelma Yellin High School’s jazz program, he continued his music studies at the prestigious New School University in New York. In New York, while still studying, he formed the band “Satlah” and recorded his first album with the Tzadik label, produced by John Zorn, marking the beginning of his international career.
Over the years, Zamir has released 16 albums as a soloist, six of them with leading international companies. His album “Amen” released in 2006 is considered to be the best-selling jazz album ever in Israel. His commercial and artistic success led to winning the Prime Minister’s Award for Jazz Composers in 2010, as he is considered one of the pioneers of “Jewish Jazz.”
Zamir’s career is characterized by impressive collaborations with leading Israeli musicians, including Evyatar Banai, Berry Sakharof, Shlomo Gronich, Rami Kleinstein, Yoni Rechter, and many others. He has performed at prestigious festivals worldwide, including the Melbourne Jazz Festival, Jarasum Jazz Festival in Korea, and leading jazz festivals in Europe. Simultaneously, he has expanded his work into television and film, composing music for successful series such as “Dance of Fire,” “Autonomies,” and “Life is a Hard Time.”
Beyond his musical achievements, Zamir serves as a significant bridge between the religious and secular worlds in Israeli culture. He established “Mizmor,” the first higher education music school designated for the religious public, which he directed from 2010 to 2016. His educational and artistic activities represent a unique connection between different content worlds, successfully combining tradition and innovation, jazz and Israeli music, and bringing together diverse audiences in Israeli society.
